On 17 September 2026 the US Department of Energy launched the Quantum Genesis Q Competition, with up to 215 million dollars planned to fund private companies able to demonstrate quantum computers with at least 100 logical qubits. Days earlier, its scientific advisory committee published a roadmap that measures progress by scientific utility rather than hardware metrics.

A quantum and AI hackathon for defence, at the Grand Palais in December
The French Defence Innovation Agency and Artefact bring engineering students together on 2 to 4 December 2026, with teams selected in October and November.
The Defence Innovation Agency (AID) and Artefact organise a Quantum Defence Hackathon from 2 to 4 December 2026 at the Grand Palais in Paris, during the Adopt AI Summit. Engineering students work in teams of four to eight on quantum computing and artificial intelligence applications for defence.

QVX Day: EQTC 2026 adds a day devoted to quantum applications and their users
On 3 December 2026 in Dublin, application showcases and provider pitches; submissions close on 5 October.
The European Quantum Technologies Conference (EQTC 2026, Dublin, 30 November to 3 December) adds a fourth day, QVX Day, on 3 December, devoted to exchanges between application developers, technology providers, buyers, validators and funders. Showcases and pitches are selected on submission, with a deadline of 5 October 2026.
