On 17 September 2026 the US Department of Energy launched the Quantum Genesis Q Competition, with up to 215 million dollars planned to fund private companies able to demonstrate quantum computers with at least 100 logical qubits. Days earlier, its scientific advisory committee published a roadmap that measures progress by scientific utility rather than hardware metrics.
